Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.”
Matthew 19:21
The tagline on our homepage reads “Fully Commit”. As I was praying about what it means to fully commit, the story of the Rich Young Ruler came to mind. In Matthew 19:16-29, a wealthy young man comes to Jesus and says, “I’ve done what you asked but I think I’m still missing something.” Jesus replies, “Well, there’s one thing I would have you do…you have alot of stuff and it’s holding you hostage. Sell it all and give your earnings to the poor. Then come join me.” The wealthy young man walks away sad because he owned alot of stuff.*
Are you ready to commit your life to Christ no matter what? You have to give up the stuff that’s holding you hostage. We carry stuff, whether it’s old hurts, hangups, and habits, physical belongings, desires for other things, wishes, people…whatever it is…let go of it and watch as Jesus gives more back to you than you ever could have accumulated on your own (including eternal life).
*this is my own paraphrase of Matthew 19:20-22
